MTA to hold Public Hearing on Possible Metro Bus Service Changes

MTA will hold a public hearing on Saturday, Nov. 10, to receive public comment regarding a number of service changes that call for the cancellation of several lines to improve efficiency and eliminate duplication of bus services.

Public Hearing set for Saturday, Nov. 10

The public hearing will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 10th at the MTA Headquarters Building, located at One Gateway Plaza in downtown Los Angeles. The hearing will be held in the 3rd floor Board room.

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive public comment on the proposed route and schedule modifications on the following lines:

  • Line 18 (West Sixth St./Whittier Blvd.) Cancel line segment east of Montebello Metrolink Station. Alternate bus service is provided by Montebello bus line 10.

  • Line 56 (LA/Wilmington Ave./Imperial Station) Cancel Line. Alternate adjacent service is provided by the Metro Blue Line and existing MTA bus line 55.

  • Line 58 (Alameda Street) Consider reducing service up to 50 percent by adjusting frequency of buses according to rider demand.

  • Line 214 (South Broadway/Main Street Loop/Artesia Station) Cancel weekend service and extend the line north on weekdays to Harbor/I-105 Transitway Station.

  • Line 378 (LA/Alhambra/South Arcadia) Cancel line. Existing MTA local service lines 78-79 provides alternate service.

  • Line 379 (LA/Arcadia via Huntington Dr.) Cancel line. Alternate service provided by existing MTA local service lines 78-79.

  • Line 471 (Puente Hills Mall/Whittwood Center/Brea Mall) Cancel line contingent on the identification of alternate service or shorten line at the Los Angeles/Orange County Line. Alternate service provided by existing Orange County Transit Line 116.

  • Line 491 (LA/Sierra Madre via Santa Anita Ave. Express) Shorten line to operate between El Monte Busway Station and Sierra Madre. Alternate service provided by existing MTA lines 484 & 490 and Foothill Transit.

 Proposed service modifications to MTA operated bus Lines 18, 56, 378, 379, 471 & 491 are scheduled for June 2002 or later. Proposed service changes to contracted bus service on Lines 58 & 214 are scheduled for implementation in March 2002 or later.
