Harbor Transitway carpool lanes on the I-110 Harbor Freeway closing nightly 10 p.m. beginning June 5 through early morning hours of June 10

Wednesday June 01, 2011

Due to preliminary road work in preparation for the ExpressLanes Demonstration Project, HOV carpool lanes on the I-110 Harbor Transitway will be closed nightly Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. The lanes will reopen at the conclusion of the road work by 5 a.m. on Friday morning, June 10. Lane closures are weather-permitting and subject to change.

The express fare will not be charged when the detours are in effect.

The night-time closure will affect traffic and late night bus service on Lines 460, 550 and Silver Line serving 37th St/USC, Slauson, Manchester, Harbor Fwy, and Rosecrans stations. The platforms to those stations will be closed. Customers may board nearby on Figueroa.

Northbound/Inbound towards downtown Los Angeles or El Monte

  • Board buses on northbound Figueroa at the following intersecting streets: Rosecrans, Green Line Ped Xing, Imperial Hwy, Manchester, Slauson, and 37th St-Exposition.

Southbound/Outbound towards Artesia Transit Center or Disneyland

  • Board buses on southbound Figueroa at the following intersecting streets: Exposition-37th St, Slauson, Manchester, Imperial Hwy, Green Line Ped Xing, and Rosecrans.

Buses will be subject to delays throughout each night due to local traffic detours. Patrons may consider using Line 81 on Figueroa during these times as an additional option for travel to and from downtown Los Angeles and nearby Harbor Transitway stations.

The Harbor Transitway is a major public transit corridor that runs 11 miles along the median of the Harbor Freeway between Artesia Transit Center north to Adams Boulevard near USC in Los Angeles.

ExpressLanes is a pilot, one-year demonstration project overseen by Metro, Caltrans and several other mobility partners that have joined forces to develop a package of solutions to improve traffic flow and provide enhanced travel options on the I-10 and I-110 Freeways in Los Angeles County.

The solution package includes the introduction of congestion pricing by converting High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes; the improvement of transit service and other alternatives to driving; the updating of transit facilities, and the implementation of a more effective parking management system in downtown Los Angeles.
