The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Autority (Metro) and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) are advising the public that two extended, 10-hour directional freeway closures will be required on the weekends leading up to "Carmageddon II" September 29-30 to prepare the remaining half of the Mulholland Bridge for its final demolition.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and its contractor, Kiewit Infrastructure West, plan to open two key ramps -- the Westbound Wilshire on-ramp to the Northbound I-405 and the Northbound I-405 off-ramp to Westbound Wilshire -- on Friday, August 31, to L.A. motorists, approximately three weeks earlier than scheduled and just in time for Labor Day weekend.
Metro will expand its special weekend late-night service that operates until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday to include Sunday Sept. 2 on all Metro Rail, Orange Line and Silver Line service.
Steve Lopes, USC Senior Associate Athletic Director, Jan Perry, L.A. Los Angeles, Calif. (Aug. 23, 2012) - Metro staff, working in conjunction with Caltrans, is recommending that the list of alternatives being studied for the SR 710 north-south connection from Alhambra to Pasadena be pared from 12 to five for further environmental study based on operational, engineering, financial and environmental considerations as well as public input. Among alternatives that would not continue are surface route options for Avenue 64 and San Rafael, or underground in the Mount Washington area or any surface highway options in those corridors.

The EZ transit pass -- the monthly pass good for travel on 25 different public transit carriers throughout Los Angeles County -- will begin the transition from paper to TAP cards Sept. 1, making it easier for customers to travel without transfers, renew their passes each month and replace their cards, should they be lost of stolen. The EZ transit pass is one of the last paper passes to transition to smart card technology.
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) reached a 3-year contract with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), representing over 2,300 bus and rail maintenance employees.
And now, more good news: The Metro Silver Line will begin running expanded late-night service starting this Friday, Aug. 17. The Silver Line busway will operate until approximately 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, with the last bus departing Artesia Transit Center at 1:56 a.m. and El Monte Bus Station at 2 a.m. This new service schedule is a welcome addition to the extended late-night rail service which began three weeks ago.
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), August 9, granted the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) a Record of Decision (ROD) for the $5.6 billion Westside Subway Extension, officially certifying that the project has satisfied all federal guidelines for environmental analysis.
