Art's a Trip. Free Metro Rail Tour

MetroLab

MetroLab was a program designed to support innovative, experimental works by artists which engage Metro Rail and Metro Bus transit users. Artists were nominated by a Curatorial Committee and by fifteen Nominators selected by the committee.

The goals for MetroLab were to create projects that:

  • were innovative, thought provoking, and of high quality;
  • supported non-traditional ways to bring art to transit customers and attract new users;
  • responded well to the site and engage transit users;
  • be durable, safe, and vandal-resistant throughout the life of the project;
  • were feasible within budget and schedule; and
  • provided an opportunity for emerging and established visual artists to engage in public art for the first time and, by doing so, broaden the field of public art.

Projects took place at a Metro Rail station/facility, in a Metro Rail train, within a Metro Bus, and at a Metro Bus facility.

Artists selected were:

  • Cindy Bernard/Joseph Hammer, 2002
  • George Legrady, 2002
  • Daniel Marlos, 2002
  • Jessica Rath, 2002
