Outreach

Transit Education Programs have a three-pronged approach to make a lasting impression on its audience.

Presentations

The Transit Education Team maintains an ongoing relationship with Los Angeles County school districts to reinforce Metro safety messages through Safety Presentations. In addition, the team reaches out to audiences at senior centers, libraries, recreation centers and businesses.

In classrooms and auditoriums, the Transit Education Programs Team provides vivid, site-specific presentations, integrating photos and videos of nearby rail and Orange Line crossings. Referencing local stations and their geography, the Transit Education Team introduces and reviews safety along all Metro alignments. The presentation can range from fifteen minutes to one hour, depending on your needs. Presentations can also be conducted in Spanish.

A question and answer period at the end of each presentation offers an opportunity for dialogue between the presenter and the audience. Transit Education Team members also share valuable information about Metro’s destinations and fares.

For more information or to schedule a safety presentation, contact Dixie Pattison, Transit Education Programs, at 213.922.4050 or pattisond@metro.net.

Tours

Metro’s Transit Education Team leads hands-on safety orientation tours. Interested groups must call three weeks prior to the desired date of the safety tour. Tours are not provided to children under age five. Schools must provide a minimum of one teacher/chaperone per ten students. All tour groups must meet at Metro headquarters at Union Station. Tours are conducted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include a day pass to explore the Metro system.

Tours last approximately 90 minutes with an introduction to light and heavy rail. For more information or to schedule a safety tour, contact Dixie Pattison, Transit Education Programs, at 213.922.4050 or pattisond@metro.net.

Community Events

Transit Education participates at various community events along Metro Rail alignments. The team provides an information resource table which can include safety tip materials and the opportunity to talk with Transit Education staff members to answer questions regarding Metro services.

To request Transit Education’s participation, contact Dixie Pattison, Transit Education Programs, at 213.922.4050 or pattisond@metro.net.
