As an employer you may already have an informal telecommuting (or Telework) program, allowing employees to occasionally work from home, or a location near home. But if you wish to make a significant impact on your employer’s trip reduction program, decrease absenteeism, reduce overhead expenses, and expand your labor pool, then you may want to consider formalizing a telecommuting program.
Metro offers telecommuting overview booklet and a guidebook. Call 213.922.2811 for details.
Variable work hour programs provide alternatives to typical work schedules. These programs can reduce the number of vehicles coming to the work site, decrease employee absenteeism, and increase Average Vehicle Ridership (AVR). There are several types of Variable Work Hours programs:
Employees complete their required number of weekly hours in fewer days than the typical five-day workweek. For example, employees may work four 10-hour workdays instead of the usual five 8-hour workdays in one week.
Employees vary their start and end times while maintaining a core set of work hours.
Spread out the peak commuting period to relieve traffic congestion around the worksite.
