Artist Gayle Gale and Barnsdall Park Junior Arts Center invited children from nearby elementary schools and neighborhood residents to create the mural, We've Been Working on the Railroad, for the Vermont Avenue and Sunset Boulevard site. With assistance from Los Angeles artist Richard Godfrey, Gale held 10 workshops at the Junior Arts Center during which children painted self-contours in bright colors as if they were "working on the railroad," creating a lively enhancement to an otherwise mundane construction element.
